Introduction to Mark Dixon

Anthony from Wide Open Spaces is delighted to announce a further branch of collaboration with Mark Dixon from Garden Route Trail (https://gardenroutetrail.co.za/).

Mark is a qualified marine biologist, whom has worked in environmental positions globally as a CCAMLR Scientific Observer in the Ross Sea, Antarctica, and on a Jaguar Project with Conservation International in the Pantanal, Brazil.

He is also an avid hiker and this passion of his, has led him to hike in many different mountain ranges across the world, including the USA and Canadian Rockies, the Chilean, Bolivian and Peruvian Andes, Nepalese Himalaya’s, New Zealand Alps and of course not forgetting those somewhat closer to home, the Drakensberg, Swartberg and Outeniqua mountain ranges in South Africa.

Being an astute naturalist and an active field researcher (ornithologist, marine biologist and ichnologist), Mark has a plethora of knowledge, which he loves to share with his guests as a mixture of scientific information and personal observations.

In addition to hiking, mountain biking and birding, Mark also has initiated the Strandloper Project (https://www.strandloperproject.org/) which involves research into ghost fishing from snagged recreational fishing tackle in the Garden Route.

With Mark’s wealth of experience, his addition to the collaboration already in place between Anthony Rosenbaum (from Wide Open Spaces) and Colleen Browne (from Southern Summits Trail Tours) will result in a diverse and exciting range of products we are able to offer to both local and foreign tourists.
